At Renacer Foundation, we successfully celebrated the fourth edition of our Familia Day, a community intervention workday designed to recognize, honor, and engage directly with our seniors and their families. This year, we structured the event under a more intimate and intergenerational framework, fostering an active environment where children, youth, adults, and, most importantly, our seniors, interacted side by side.
This event has established itself as a key strategy within our community health programs, aimed at mitigating risk factors associated with social isolation in older adults while strengthening family and community support networks across the region.
In this Familia Day 2026, we established two strategic partnerships with the Senior Resource Alliance (SRA)—the designated Area Agency on Aging for Central Florida—and AdventHealth. Through this interagency collaboration, we coordinate efforts to ensure that families gain access to programs and resources that promote active, healthy, and dignified aging.
This workday also welcomed the involvement of the American United Foundation and Fundafe Apostólica through their donation of gifts and essential supplies that enhance senior well-being, alongside Honey’s Mini Therapy Adventures, whose animal-assisted therapy contributed to a calm, sensory-stimulating environment highly beneficial to all attendees.
Program Core Elements: Integration and Cognitive Stimulation Activities
To meet the objective of fostering a participatory environment and promoting cognitive wellness, we designed and implemented several structured activities:
Table Games and Dominoes: These dynamics served as mental stimulation tools for older adults, promoting decision-making, working memory, and social interaction with younger generations in a recreational setting.
Karaoke Sessions: Music was integrated as a therapeutic resource for cognitive stimulation, allowing participants to connect with meaningful memories, practice verbal expression, and reduce stress levels.
Family Honor Video Screening: A central moment of the day was the screening of an audiovisual presentation prepared exclusively by the youth of our Summer Youth Program. In this video, the students shared testimonies about the family members they admire and who inspire them. This was an incredibly emotional moment that highlighted the value of seniors as figures of wisdom, resilience, and core values within the household.
Impact on Mental Health and Wellness Determinants
From a public health perspective, social disconnection and the lack of meaningful daily interactions are critical determinants that accelerate cognitive decline and increase the prevalence of mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety, among older adults.
By structuring our fourth Familia Day around an intergenerational dynamic, we positively influenced the community's mental health through three protective factors:
Sense of Belonging and Self-Esteem: Placing older adults at the center of the activities and making them the recipients of youth recognition boosts their self-worth and reinforces their active role within the family structure.
Caregiver Stress Reduction: These spaces offer a safe recreational environment that serves as therapeutic respite for family caregivers, reducing the physical and emotional burden associated with daily elder care.
Intergenerational Solidarity: Encouraging children and youth to interact realistically and empathetically with older adults humanizes the aging process and educates younger generations on values of respect, care, and civic responsibility.
A Sustainable Commitment to Community
We are deeply grateful to every participant, family member, volunteer, staff member, and partner who dedicated their time to make this day a highly impactful experience. At Renacer Foundation, we reinforce our commitment to continue leading interventions where physical health, emotional well-being, and the strengthening of family bonds remain the driving force to build healthier, more united, and hope-filled communities throughout 2026.
