The intersection between social determinants of health, such as food security, and emotional well-being constitutes one of the most complex challenges in public health today. At Renacer Foundation, we address this reality through an integrated intervention model. On the second Saturday of each month, our facilities and service spaces in Azalea Park are transformed into a community care hub designed to mitigate chronic stress and promote cognitive health.
While families access essential resources at the traditional Food Pantry, Renacer’s team of professionals deploys Mental Health Education Sessions. This initiative is designed and executed under the exclusive leadership of the mental health component that Renacer manages within the Faith Community Forest project, utilizing the natural environment as an active platform for emotional support and community-based therapy.
Stress Reduction and Destigmatizing Emotional Care
Financial stress and the lack of basic resources have a direct impact on mental health, frequently manifesting as elevated levels of family anxiety and cognitive fatigue. Our sessions are practically structured by Renacer to counteract these effects through three strategic components:
Accessibility and Barrier Removal: By bringing mental health services directly to the Food Pantry assistance sites, the stigma associated with seeking psychological support is removed. Emotional care is presented in an accessible, normalized, and welcoming manner for all Azalea Park residents.
Mental Resilience Training: Evidence-based psychoeducational tools are provided for crisis management, anxiety control, and strengthening family bonds under socioeconomic stress.
Ecotherapy and Holistic Health in the Forest: As leaders of the mental health component within the Faith Community Forest project, we integrate this environment not only as a reforestation plan but as an active therapeutic resource. Guided contact with nature and the growth of the urban canopy in Azalea Park act as physiological stress regulators, offering citizens a natural sanctuary for emotional relief and psychological recovery.
